Working with Pelvic and Abdominal Scarring
November 10, 2023 @ 10:00 am – November 11, 2023 @ 6:00 pm
Timings: 10.00 – 18.00 both days
Specialist training for qualified Sharon Wheeler’s ScarWork therapists only
Teacher: Jan Trewartha
Attendees must have a working knowledge of, and been practising the first nine ScarWork techniques. If you have been qualified as a manual therapist for less than five years, then you should have one year’s experience as a ScarWork therapist behind you before attending this course. This is because some of the techniques are designed to deeply integrate the body, allowing distortion, torque, and tissue displacement to be addressed; therefore, students need to be able to handle the body intelligently.
Although this course primarily addresses surgical interventions on women, we welcome male ‘scar models’ for hernia repairs, prostate surgery and other relevant surgeries.
2-day intensive covering:
- Revision of Caesareans, Diep Flaps and Tummy Tucks.
- The use of mesh in surgery. Working with the body after mesh removal.
- Revision of particularly useful ScarWork techniques within the context of pelvic scarring.
- Clearing the anterior iliac crests (ASIS).
- Revision of epidural treatment. How to find the epidural site.
- Repositioning the mons pubis.
- ‘Vaginal column’ lift.
- Working with abdominal torque.
- Integration of the pelvic tissues.
- Addressing deep adhesions.
- The broader, fascial work taught on day 2 can be used anywhere on the body; these are tools you can use with confidence to restructure the tissue locally and globally once you have worked on the scar, and create better integration, posture, ROM and functionality.
- The focus of this course is very much the global effect of scars. For example, with pelvic scars we might look at associated abdominal congestion and upper thoracic tension, working to free up the front body which is often contracted due to the scarring. This often assists emotional expression and is a huge relief to the client.
TESTIMONIAL:
“As a bodyworker who also has pelvic scarring myself, I was very keen to attend the specialist Pelvic and Abdominal scarring course with Jan Trewartha. From both a practitioner’s point of view and the view of a body with extensive pelvic scars, I was not disappointed.
Learning how to apply these new specialist techniques through demonstrations, pair work and then on clients, has reinforced my prior learning and given me the confidence to try exciting and inspiring skills that I can only describe as techniques that astonish when observed.
On the receiving end, I witnessed first-hand how important this work is and the results that follow. I have seen marked improvements in the appearance of the scars, abdominal congestion, hip mobility, lower back niggles and internal organ function.
Jan’s passion for what she does and her generosity with her knowledge resulted in me coming away from the course with a deeper understanding of scars and their effect on our bodies. Her course has consolidated my existing knowledge, motivating me and firing me up to take my ScarWork practice to another level.“
